John Wainwright
(active 1845 - 1873)
John Wainwright was a British painter of flower subjects, who flourished in the mid 19th century. He lived and worked in London, where records show he exhibited at both Suffolk Street and the British Institute.
Wainwright is most well known for his skilful floral compositions, often in a landscape setting. His particular concentration on the details of nature, such as the birds and insects seen in this work, can be clearly attribution to his fascination with the large flower paintings of earlier Dutch Masters.
